The Tower of the Elementals
The
Tower of the Elementals lies in the central Desert, at the exact center
of the Lands. While the Elementals
themselves make their homes at the four corners of the Lands, the Tower
is the mystical intersection of their power at the center of the world.
There is a wonderful and detailed description
of the place that was given to us by one of the Watchers.
As far as we know, the Elementals never actually *visit* the tower, or
really have anything to do with it, on their own, but traveling to the
tower and standing in the gallery is one of the only ways to contact any
of the Elementals. It is not a project lightly undertaken, as the trip
across the desert to reach the tower is a dangerous one, and one does
not lightly disturb a being who is nearly a god, but it has been done,
on occasion. Calliope is the
most likely of the Elementals to respond to the plea of one standing in
the tower before her image in the gallery, she has always been the one
most interested in intervening on our behalf. The Tower is a mystical
place, and as close as we ever come to some sort of holy shrine, in our
worlds. Traveling there is the equivalent to making a pilgrimage to a
holy land or some such thing. Few of us have done it, but those who have
are usually changed by the experience, at least a little.
