The
Chasm
The Chasm is a hole through the center of the world, from the southwest of the central desert of the Lands to a deserted section of the Dark Place not far from the Shadow Lord's Castle. The Chasm is several miles across, and from the Lands side it appears to be a bottomless black pit. From the Dark Place the Chasm appears to be a huge, mist-shrouded hole glowing in the darkness. The glow that is visible from the Dark Place opening of the Chasm is due to the light from the Lands shining through (it is brighter on the Lands side of the world) and appears as a bluish light shining upwards into the sky. It is visible from hundreds of miles away.
Some of the Caves were within the area destroyed when the Chasm was formed, and so within the Chasm there are numerous openings into the Caves. The Chasm was formed fairly recently (in January of 2001) when two very powerful beings fought an incredibly destructive battle which culminated in such a release of destructive energies that a hole was literally blown through the world.
